Qanat + Bādgir
Qanat-fed windcatcher
Born in Persia.
How it works
A qanat brings cool water from distant mountains; the windcatcher draws air down over that water and evaporation chills it before it enters the rooms. Wind tower + underground water + courtyard form one zero-energy cooling system (dry air only).
In a modern home
Evaporative ('desert') cooling, water-court microclimates, shaded water features at air-intake points, for dry-climate cities (Delhi-NCR pre-monsoon, Rajasthan).
What it answers
Source
The Persian Qanat and the historic city of Yazd are UNESCO World Heritage.
