About Vāstav, climate intelligence for the Global South

What is Vāstav?
Vāstav (वास्तव, “the real, the authentic”; also written Vastav) is climate intelligence for the Global South. You share a space, a home, an apartment, an office, a plot, and Vāstav reads how it actually performs: its light, air, heat, comfort, ventilation, energy and climate resilience. It combines architecture, building science, climate data, AI and traditional spatial knowledge, and returns changes that make a building cooler, smarter and more efficient.
The name is the thesis. Vāstu (वास्तु) is the old discipline of building. Vāstav (वास्तव) means reality. We read what is actually true about a building, its sun, its air, its water, its comfort, rather than judging it on looks or superstition.
In one sentence: Vāstav helps people understand how a building will perform before they buy, rent, design or build it. Traditional knowledge is one optional layer, never a requirement.
What a Vāstav report gives you
| You get | What it means |
|---|---|
| A reading of your actual space | Your real plan, held to the sun, the wind and the directions, room by room |
| Performance, measured | Daylight, solar heat, ventilation, thermal comfort, energy and climate resilience |
| Built for your location | Heat load, ventilation, light and water tuned to the real climate, not generic rules |
| Changes ranked by cost and return | Each finding ends in something you can do, with what it costs and what it gives back |
| Evidence, every time | Each reading shown with its data, its assumptions and its source, not anonymous claims |
| No fear, ever | Calm and evidence-led. No disease, death, bankruptcy or misfortune talk |
How it works
- Share your space: upload a floor plan and mark true north.
- Vāstav reads it. A full report in about three minutes (Pada Home, live now).
- You get a verdict, the most useful changes first, and the data, reasoning and sources underneath if you want to go deeper.
Not ready to upload? Walk through a sample report to see the instrument work before you share anything.
Why Vāstav is different
People usually judge a building on looks, or on superstition. Almost no one can tell you how it will actually perform: whether it overheats, whether it breathes, what it will cost to keep comfortable. Vāstav exists to make that legible.
It is measured, not aesthetic. Orientation, daylight, heat, airflow and comfort, read as physics and shown with the evidence, so a decision rests on how a space performs rather than how it photographs.
It is architect-led and building-science grounded. Readings are built on an architect-defined method and climate data, not improvised, and not fear-based.
Tradition is one layer, never a belief you must hold. Where it is relevant, we read classical spatial principles as the climate logic they encode: the northeast kept open for soft morning light, the southeast suited to the kitchen for its cross-ventilation. You can read that chapter for context, or turn it off and lose nothing of the science.
It is doable for the space you actually have. A reading does not tell you to move a wall you cannot move. It tells you what is in your control, and clearly marks the structural moves for whenever you renovate or bring in an architect.
Who Vāstav is for
- Homeowners and renters who want to understand a space before they commit to it.
- Architects who want a sourced, climate-grounded reading to design with and hand to clients.
- Developers who want building performance as a credible, defensible sales feature.
- Businesses evaluating an office or a site for comfort, energy and productivity.
- People of every belief, including those who do not believe in Vastu. The science stands on its own.
The products
- Pada Home, a Spatial Intelligence Report for your home. Live now.
- Apartment Performance Report, Office Intelligence Report, Site Intelligence Report, Developer Project Review, Climate Readiness Assessment, Renovation Intelligence Report and an AI Building Score. Opening in stages; join the waitlist to be told first.
Who's behind Vāstav
We are two architects building the instrument we always wished we had.
Varalika Sahu, Co-founder. Architect, with a Master in Advanced Architecture (MAA) from IAAC Barcelona, where she worked in the Self-Sufficient Buildings studio. Her background is in computational and environmental design: parametric workflows, climate-responsive thinking, and the systems that turn principle into measurable guidance.
Arun Khurana, Co-founder. Second-generation architect at DKA Architectural Design Studio (founded 1998), with built practice across hospitality, commercial, and residential work in India. He brings the on-the-ground reality of how buildings actually get made, and used.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to believe in Vastu to use Vāstav?
- No. Vāstav is a building-performance platform. The light, heat, air, ventilation, comfort and energy findings stand entirely on their own. Traditional spatial knowledge is one optional chapter you can read for context, or turn off.
- Is Vāstav a religious or spiritual service?
- No. Vāstav is a climate intelligence company. It evaluates how buildings perform using architecture, building science, climate data and AI. It is for people of every belief.
- What does a Vāstav report actually measure?
- Orientation, daylight, solar heat gain, cross ventilation, thermal comfort, spatial efficiency, functional planning, privacy and noise, energy efficiency, climate resilience and future adaptability, with traditional spatial principles as an optional layer.
- Does Vāstav use fear?
- No. Vāstav never claims that a direction, door or wall will affect health, disease, mortality, marriage or money. Those claims are exactly what we exist to replace with evidence.
- How much does a report cost?
- Pada Home, the Spatial Intelligence Report for your home, starts at ₹999 for a full reading. Pricing is shown before you pay.
- Is Vāstav a replacement for an architect or structural engineer?
- No. Vāstav accelerates understanding and planning; it is not professional structural, engineering or statutory-approval advice. For construction and safety decisions, work with a licensed professional.
- Can I use Vāstav from outside India?
- Yes. Upload the plan from anywhere and get a report tuned to the building’s real location and climate. People building or renovating in India from abroad are a core audience.
- How does the optional traditional layer work?
- Where it is relevant, we read classical spatial principles (sourced to texts such as the Bṛhat Saṁhitā, Manasāra and Mayamata) as the climate logic they encode, and we are honest about which claims are well-grounded and which are later folk additions. You can show or hide this layer at any time.
